Title: Pediatrician Survey on EHDI Knowledge, Attitude and Practice
Primary Track: 4-Medical Home
Keyword(s): Primary Care Physicians, Knowledge, Attitude, Practice Methods

Abstract:

An infant's medical home is an integral partner during the newborn hearing screening process and any subsequent diagnostic evaluations and interventions following confirmation of a hearing loss. The medical home often “sets the pace” for follow-up and intervention because of the close and trusting relationship that has developed. A survey was developed by EHDI staff in the state of Kentucky and was disseminated by EHDI Chapter Champion via the Kentucky Chapter of the AAP. The goal of the survey was to gain information about primary care physicians/pediatrician's knowledge base about newborn hearing screening, their attitudes toward the EHDI process and their practice patterns. Information gained from the survey will help strengthen the success of the EHDI program and help identify educational opportunities for physicians related to newborn hearing screening, follow-up and intervention. Ultimately our goal is ensure that infants are not lost to follow-up because of inaccurate information or lack of knowledge about the newborn hearing screening process.
