Thea Dawn Wilson is a fourth year Au.D. student at Gallaudet University in Washington, DC. Her interest in pediatric audiology has led to participation in the the Pediatric Educational Audiology Emphasis in the Au.D. Program.
Ms. Wilson is a student member of the National Association for Future Doctors of Audiology, and served in the local chapter from 2004-2006. She has also been a member of AAA since 2004 to the present.
Thea Wilson’s completed research area is pediatric diagnostic audiology and evidence based practice. Her goals upon completion of her Au.D. are to continue clinical practice and research with interest in auditory processing.

Abstract: |
Osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) is a rare debilitating condition that affects 6-7 people per 100,000 worldwide (Osteogenesis Imperfecta, 2008). OI is often referred to as ‘brittle bone disease’ due to recurring bone fractures. In addition to multiple fractures, a person diagnosed with this condition may experience dental fragility, short stature and hearing loss. The presence of hearing loss is common for many people who have OI. This frequent occurrence of hearing loss necessitates an identification of the appropriate methods for audiological assessment and management. The purpose of this study was to present a systematic review of the literature and to identify the evidence that would indicate the audiological protocol for the pediatric population with OI. The literature revealed consistencies in some areas of audiological assessment, inconsistencies for audiological assessment in other areas, a necessity for inclusion of detailed audiological results in the studies and areas of need for future studies.
