Going Global Through Geography
Provide students with a global perspective by offering exploration of various cultures through cuisine and geography. Come along and travel the world as we discuss ways to provide students with a unique understanding of agriculture and how it enriches specific cultures.
Areas of exploration include Ocha, the Japanese tea ceremony, Greek saganaki (flaming cheese), Indian samosas, and champurrado, a traditional Mexican Day of the Dead drink. Learn how you can cultivate student interest in travel and exploration while embedding agriculture into social studies curriculum/lessons. Agriculture topics include information about corn crops, potato farming, dairy production, and harvesting green tea leaves.

Molly Coffman is a K-4 Global Studies teacher turned agriculture enthusiast. She specializes in fostering inquiry and providing project-based and experiential learning opportunities for her students. In recent years, she has worked to build a greenhouse/outdoor classroom, raise chicks and install a permanent coop, as well as procure a mobile hydroponics lab for her school. She is currently researching how to introduce bees to her learning community.
A lover of travel and exploration, she enjoys cultivating a global perspective in her elementary students.
