CANCELED: Pest Management & Pesticides: A Historic Perspective

A great way to teach history, science, and health is to provide a perspective of how pest management has evolved over the centuries. Materials for classroom use will include lesson plans, video, and hands-on activities that can be used to show learners how pest management has changed from early practices to controls discovered purely by accident to today’s development and regulation of synthetic pesticides used in agriculture and by consumers. The Irish potato famine, bubonic plague, DDT use, and Rachel Carson’s Silent Spring illustrate historical and societal lessons on how pests and pest management have changed the course of history.
