The Ethics of E-Counseling (E)

E-therapy is a growing area of the counseling field, with technology growing faster than the knowledge base. As such, there are plenty of ethical dilemmas to be addressed. There will be a small group breakout to discuss (about a dozen) vignettes of ethical case challenges, which will then be addressed in the entire audience. Most of the vignettes to be discussed borrow from his personal experience in performing e-therapy. All names and situations discussed are anonymous to provide confidentiality for the clients. A general set of rules covering e-therapy will be given, and discussed. Ethics of the various counseling professions will also be covered. Given time, some discussion of technology will be discussed. Suggestions as to further resources will complete this brief coverage of this topic.

  • Look at the ethical dilemnas present in electronic therapy
  • Review the various professions laws and rules and legislative changes
  • Have fun and examine your beliefs
