Measurement of Thermal Conductivity of Various Two-phase Materials Using Modified Transient Plane Source Technique

Estimating the thermal conductivity of two-phase materials is a challenge with traditional steady state techniques. As they require large volume of materials which pose undesirable non-destructive. In this present study modified transient plane source technique (MTPS) was used to measure the effective thermal conductivity of various two-phase materials. Experimental thermal conductivity data obtained from the measurements are compared with modified collocated parameter models for various solid-air composition (insulation materials) and disperse matrix (composites) systems which incorporating the secondary effects of contact conductance, geometry, including pressure and temperature dependent parameter, Knudsen effect. The measurement of thermal conductivity ranging 0.01-100 W/mK with temperature range of 223K to 473K. The algebraic expressions are derived for both touching and non-touching two-dimensional and three-dimensional spatially periodic geometrics based on unit cell approach. The experimental results are in good agreement with analytical model ±12.5% for the materials (100
