Abiotic Disorders of Woody Ornamentals
We think of plant diseases as those caused by infectious organisms, such as fungi or bacteria. But trees and shrubs can also become diseased by noninfectious (non-living) factors, causing "abiotic disorders." In the arid West, many tree growth problems are due to these various factors, such as poor soil, fertility issues, and moisture or temperature extremes. Learn to identify and prevent these disorders from affecting plant health.
