Early intervention playgroups in Frank Hilton Organization Fiji

Like many other developing countries there is a lack of early intervention services in Fiji. In 2017 the Speech Pathology team at Frank Hilton Organization (FHO) suggested the development of playgroups to assist with this shortfall especially as the organization was improving early identification of children with hearing impairments and other difficulties. The playgroup program began at FHO in term 4 of 2017 in order to meet the need to provide families with support, education and early intervention, and facilitate smooth transition to mainstream and special ed settings. This poster will explain the program, the lessons, learnt and some of the continuing challenges.

  • How playgroups can provide support and early intervention to families
  • How playgroups can help in assessment of children with disabilities
