Apps for Kids (and Adults) with Hearing Loss

For individuals who are deaf and/or hard of hearing, apps can provide portable power in a variety of ways such as accessibility, auditory training, advocacy, education and entertainment. This presentation provides an overview of how to leverage touch technology in your daily lives as well as see a few apps in action. We will explore my "Apps for Kids (and Adults) with Hearing Loss" lists for iOS and for Android as well as other resources. Be sure to bring your device!

  • Participants will know how to find reduced price or free apps
  • Participants will know some of the features of mobile technology that can help clients with speech or hearing difficulties
  • Participants will be aware of resources to access for app reviews and updates on new products

Tina Childress, Au.D., CCC-A is an educational audiologist in the mainstream and residential school settings, technology and social media aficionado, late-deafened adult fluent in ASL and a bilateral cochlear implant recipient. With her unique perspective and passion for sharing information through social media, she is a sought out international presenter and adjunct lecturer to families, adults and professionals on a variety of topics but especially Hearing Assistive Technology, apps, cochlear implants, advocacy and effective strategies for coping with hearing loss. Dr. Childress is active on many local and national Boards and Committees where she is a strong advocate for accessibility and disseminating resources.
