Language Policy for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Children: Why We Need One

We will share the newly created Language Policy for Deaf & Hard of Hearing Children Ages 0-5. The Task Force consisted of experts regarding Deaf & Hard of Hearing children: parents, Deaf Education professors, early intervention home visitors, advocates, a newborn hearing screener, and D/HH professionals. The Language Policy focuses on research based best practices for language acquisition, language development, and Kindergarten-readiness. In the report are recommendations for new language interventional strategies, for inclusion of all stakeholders, and for new research.

  • Review the Language Policy best practices recommendations
  • Review the research that is the foundation of the Language Policy
  • Discuss application of these best practices
