Transportation and Food Miles

Most food in the United States is shipped an average of 1,500 miles before being sold. These distances substantially increase when considering food imported from other countries. In this session, participants will explore lessons and resources featured in the National Agricultural Curriculum Matrix that have been developed to engage elementary students in an investigation of the food supply chain and the significance of food miles. Attendees will participate in mapping activities and virtual field trips as they follow commodities from the farm to the store.
