Review of a Large Hearing, Vision, and Speech Screening Program for Young Children Track: Program Evaluation and Quality Improvement Authors: Jamie Koch123, Sandra Gabbard13 Affiliations: Marion Downs Center, Denver, Colorado; University of Colorado Anschutz, Denver, Colorado; JFK Partners, Denver, CO Presenter: Jamie Koch The Marion Downs Center (MDC) is a non-profit organization that provides audiology, speech, and language services in both clinic and community settings in the Denver metro area. The MDC has a screening team that provides on-site screenings to Head Start, private, and public schools in the Denver metro area for children ages 0 to 18 years. Retrospective data of hearing, vision, and speech screening results were analyzed for children ages 0 months to 5 years 0 months collected through the MDC from January 2014 through December 2020. Analyses include information on pass/refer rates by type of screen and if parent/teacher concern predicted the refer rate. Screening results were evaluated based on demographic variables including age at time of screening, sex, socioeconomic status, and type of program (Head Start, Private, Public-school enrollment). The project identified current roadblocks to follow-up care given the current laws/regulations and mandates in Colorado. Conclusions and recommendations will include process and protocols to optimize the identification of educationally significant hearing, vision, and speech challenges in young children. Key words: screenings, school, birth to five, referral rate Contact Information: Jamie Koch Jamie.koch@mariondowns.org (303) 621-4189
