The Three C's: Convene, Connect and Collaborate

Public Health has a long history in the role of convener. Many state EHDI programs are housed in public health agencies and are in a unique position to bring together families, consumers, medical professionals, with early interventionists, educators and policy makers at the state level to create positive change for deaf and hard of hearing children. The Massachusetts EHDI Program will describe the growth of its role in overseeing a legislatively mandated Advisory Committee, to a pediatric diagnostic audiology group and most recently a larger stakeholder group modeled after the state gatherings held at the EHDI meeting and a learning community. These groups have provided the opportunity to bring together families, consumers, and professionals across the state to share information and provide networking opportunities. Meaningful engagement of all parties requires mutual trust and the common goal of ensuring positive outcomes for deaf and hard of hearing children. Examples will be provided of successful collaborations.

  • Participant will be able to describe the role of public health in EHDI systems.
  • Participant will be able to describe the cross section of EHDI programs and other systems of care.
  • Participants will be able to provide examples of collaborative opportunities.
