First Responder Best Practices – EMS and Opioids

The presentation, “First Responder Best Practices – EMS and Opioids” will be an integrated educational and response training scenario identifying best practices for an opioid emergency. Learning objectives include: 1. Community members will increase their knowledge of EMS and the Opioid Epidemic. 2. Attendees will learn the signs and symptoms of an Opioid Overdose and when Naloxone is appropriate. 3. Participants will be able to describe EMS Response to an Opioid Emergency.

With over 30 years of EMS experience in industry and higher education, Tim’s passion is to provide a safe living and learning environment for all community members. His most recent position was the Associate Director for Student Health/Wellness at RIT’s Student Health Center, (he spent 17 years at the University). His responsibilities included assisting in the administration of Student Wellness, supervision and oversight of the RIT student-governed volunteer Ambulance (RITA), program assessment, and supervision of student employees and volunteers. Tim served as the RIT campus and community resource on issues of emergency response (including Ebola and Avian Flu Response Coordinator), health promotion and disease prevention efforts, directed wellness initiatives and teams, and provided individual health counseling to many students.
