Strong Black Families: Unique Strengths and Challenges of Religious Black Families
As part of the American Families of Faith Project, we are studying strong Black families and their unique strengths and challenges. 34 religious Black couples living in the United States were interviewed using semi-structured, in-depth interviews asking about their family life and faith. Findings indicate several unique ideas regarding strong Black families and how they manage their religion and family life. We identified several powerful and prominent themes, including 1) creating a strong marital relationship, 2) positive and cheerful living, 3) relying on divine help, 4) setting an example, and 5) the word of God and scripture.
