Building Level Local Case Management: A Model that Works!

Participants will learn about an effective Local Case Management Team (LCMT) model that identifies students who are at-risk and provides a sustained, systemic multi-tiered system of supports. This model delivers an infrastructure to analyze baseline data and prescribe a targeted Tier 2 intervention. The intervention is implemented for four weeks, after which the teacher returns to the LCMT and presents the intervention data. The team analyzes the data and makes a data-based decision to either add a second intervention to be implemented for another four weeks or continue with the current intervention. After another four weeks, the teacher returns to present data on the first and second interventions. If the student is making progress, the interventions continue. However, if the data shows that the student is still not making progress with Tier 2 supports, more intensive supports are prescribed.

  • Using a guided design model, presenters will teach participants an effective 1-2 month cyclical model that assists school Local Case Management Teams in analyzing baseline data, prescribing interventions, implementing the intervention, and making data-based decisions to determine effectiveness. Additionally, participants will meaningfully engage with the model by exploring the process using case studies, trouble-shooting potential problems of implementation, utilizing free intervention resources, and applying key elements to their own school.

Adam King has been the 504/SPED Coordinator in Davis School District for the past 8 years. Prior to that, he worked as a secondary resource teacher for 6 years teaching math and applied skills. He has a Master’s Degree in Special Education with an emphasis in transition and an Administrative Endorsement, and specializes in accessible education and providing appropriate supports and accommodations. He enjoys falconry, Star Wars, and spending time in the outdoors.

Lindsay Baird has been an elementary assistant principal in Davis School District for the past two years. Prior to that, she worked as a special education teacher for students with severe behaviors for 9 years. She has a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration and specializes in teaching behavior and social skills, differentiating instruction, supporting teachers, and loving kids. To relax, she enjoys spending time with her kids, gardening, and boating.
