MBB for Children and Those Who Serve Them

In true education form, we (Lora and Sierra) present our abstract within Learning Targets. TODAY WE WILL explore MBB implementation while working with students, families and staff through case study analysis, experiential activities, and collaborative discussion. SO THAT clinicians can teach MBB tools to stakeholders in education and child welfare with greater impact on academic, social, emotional, and behavioral outcomes. YOU WILL KNOW YOU HAVE IT WHEN you can use MBB with children in a variety of settings with confidence.

  • Explore MBB direct practice with children, students, and their environment.
  • Experience activities as a clinician and through the eyes of a child in order to walk away with usable, practical tools.
  • Become equipped with the resources necessary to set up parents, teachers, and staff for success when supporting children.

Presenters/Authors

Sierra Marsh (), Murray City School District , smarsh@murrayschools.org ;
Sierra Marsh is a CSW, and has worked in several school districts as a social worker and therapist after graduating from the University of Utah. She currently is the School Social Worker at Grant Elementary in Murray City School District where she works with individual students, small groups, families, classrooms, and the school community. Her favorite things to do at work include celebrating the success of students, presenting Social Emotional Learning concepts to classrooms, and collaborating with teachers and parents to find solutions to challenging concerns. Sierra is certified in Mind-Body Bridging, and has primarily used the tools with children, adolescents, and their families in schools and day treatment facilities.

Lora Bonham (), Summit Academy Schools, lorabonham@gmail.com;
Lora Bonham is an LCSW, currently working as a School Social Worker at Summit Academy Charter Schools in Bluffdale, UT. She works with students in K-12 through individual and group counseling, parenting support, and improving school climate through program implementation. She is an advocate for the needs of her clients within the school setting. Lora became certified in MBB because she has seen its effects with her clients of all ages and across different settings ranging from an ICU, to a physical therapy rehab facility to a classroom made up of students with behaviors requiring intensive support. She believes that learning to recognize and supervise the I-System is a gift with great power to change lives and relationships.
