Educational Audiology and EHDI: A Strategic Partnership

Educational audiologists can, and should, be a vital resource in every EHDI program. In addition to being a vital local audiological resource for loss to follow-up and related issues, they provide the necessary link between services offered under Part C and Part B of the Individuals With Disabilities Education Act. Their expertise can contribute significantly to the development of Individual Family Service Plans as well as Individual Education Plans. As part of the local community, educational audiologists are skilled in dealing with family support as well as children’s diagnostic, amplification and monitoring issues. In return, the EHDI system can be an important resource for program planning and information about specific screening and follow-up results. This presentation will emphasize specific ways that both sides of the partnership can work together to strengthen both the EHDI system and subsequent activity in the educational system.

  • Describe the ways that educational audiologists can be a vital resource to the EHDI program
  • Describe the ways the EHDI system can be a valuable source of information for the educational audiologist
  • Describe specific ways educational audiologists and EHDI personnel can collaborate to strengthen both systems
