HEART (Health Extension Advocacy Research Teaching) Community Listening Session
A community listening session to track needs, trends, resources and ways to integrate efforts. Questions that have emerged throughout the course of the Summit, as well as input from attendees will be compiled into a final report to help direct future Opioid Use Disorder reduction and mitigation efforts. This session is led by the new Health Extension: Advocacy, Research & Teaching team.

With over 30 years of EMS experience in industry and higher education, Tim’s passion is to provide a safe living and learning environment for all community members. His most recent position was the Associate Director for Student Health/Wellness at RIT’s Student Health Center, (he spent 17 years at the University). His responsibilities included assisting in the administration of Student Wellness, supervision and oversight of the RIT student-governed volunteer Ambulance (RITA), program assessment, and supervision of student employees and volunteers.
Tim served as the RIT campus and community resource on issues of emergency response (including Ebola and Avian Flu Response Coordinator), health promotion and disease prevention efforts, directed wellness initiatives and teams, and provided individual health counseling to many students.

Sandra Sulzer

Dr. Sandra Sulzer is the Director of the Health Extension: Advocacy, Research and Teaching (HEART) initiative of Utah State University and an Assistant Professor of Health and Wellness in the Department of Kinesiology and Health Science, and Cooperative Extension, at USU. She is trained as a medical sociologist and has conducted more than a decade of research in behavioral health, with an emphasis on community-led initiatives. She teaches in the Masters of Public Health program and currently serves on the Opioid Working Group and the Behavioral Health Impact Collaborative of the National Extension Committee on Organization and Policy.

Reshma Arrington

Reshma Arrington, MPH, is the new HEART representative for Salt Lake County. She is excited to bring her knowledge of public health to Extension. She received her MPH from The George Washington University where she focused on environmental epidemiology and hazards. She honed in on her data analysis skills and research talents and developed a love and knack for agriculture and crop science. After deciding to return to her stomping grounds of red rocks and hoodoos, she is ready to implement her public health and research knowledge into the opioid epidemic in Utah. A true [Southern] Utahn at heart, Reshma enjoys camping, reading, hiking with her sons and skiing. Her sons provide a lot of entertainment for her!

Maren Wright Voss

Maren Wright Voss is the new HEART representative in Tooele and Utah counties. She completed master's degrees in clinical psychology from the University of Texas Southwestern and in communications from the University of Maryland. She has a doctorate from Towson University in occupational science. Her research investigates the health outcomes tied to behavioral and social variables with a focus on participation and engagement as psychosocial health determinants. She has taught psychology, stress management, and mindfulness at colleges and in communities, while practicing these disciplines in life with a loving husband and five children. She values integrity, accountability, and compassion in achieving goals and facing life with resilience. She hopes to connect with and build bridges to wellness among the residents of Utah and Tooele counties. Her favorite activity is hiking on mountain trails.

Ashley Yaugher

Ashley Yaugher is the HEART representative for Emery and Carbon counties. Ashely recently completed a one-year postdoctoral residency as director of counseling at USU Eastern. She earned her Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Texas A&M University and completed her APA-accredited internship at the University of Utah Neuropsychiatric Institute in 2017. She earned her MS degree in clinical psychology from Texas A&M University and her undergraduate degrees in psychology and criminology from California State University, Fresno. She is passionate about mental health and physical wellness, enjoys community outreach and collaboration, and has a love of both teaching and research. She enjoys hiking, snowboarding, camping, watching movies, listening to music, and spending time with family and friends.

Kandice Atisme

Kandice Atismé is the new HEART representative for Davis and Weber counties. Kandice recently earned two master's degrees in public health and healthcare administration from the University of Utah and has a bachelor's degree in exercise and sports science. She spent several summers as an intern with the Davis County Health Department where she helped conduct/analyze public health needs assessments to address areas for action. She is excited to join Extension and work with Davis and Weber county community members to address health and wellness needs. In her free time she coaches competitive tumbling at a local gym. She also enjoys reading and finding new shows to watch.

Mateja Savoie Roskos

Dr. Mateja Savoie-Roskos is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Nutrition, Dietetics, and Food Sciences at Utah State University.Mateja teaches a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses including: Community Nutrition, Education and Counseling in Dietetics, Maternal and ChildNutrition, and Advanced Counseling and Motivational Interviewing for Health Professionals, among others. Mateja has been a part of a small group of Faculty responsible for the newly available Masters of Public Health (MPH) program at USU. When Mateja is not teaching, she is researching the Food $ense (SNAP-Ed)program, farmers market incentives, gardening interventions for youth, and Effective pedagogy. She also is the evaluation specialist for the Health Extension: Advocacy Research and Teaching (HEART) initiative. Mateja spends her free time outside with her husband,1 year old daughter, and two Vizslas.
