Hands & Voices Parent to Parent Support (Guide by Your Side) – What’s Next!
Hands & Voices Guide By Your Side programming has been in existence since 2008. Since that time, many families across the US and Canada have benefitted from this unique model of parent to parent support. This presentation will share Hands & Voices planned program enhancements in regards to parent to parent support and family outcomes. Hands & Voices is utilizing the Conceptual Framework of Parent to Parent Support for Parents of Children Who Are Deaf of Hard of Hearing: A Modified Delphi Study by researchers Henderson, Johnson, and Moodie. http://aja.pubs.asha.org/article.aspx?articleid=2527221, to develop learning outcomes for both the Supporting Parent and the Learning Parent. The researchers did a scoping review of literature and conducted an electronic Delphi study completed by 21 handpicked experts from 7 countries who have experience in provision, research, or experience in parent to parent support. The findings from this dual-stage scoping review and electronic Delphi study provide a conceptual framework that defines the vital contribution of parents in the Early Hearing and Detection and Intervention Programs. The Parent to Parent Support Conceptual Framework will be a useful tool to Hands & Voices as they work to enhance parent to parent programming with a goal of improved family outcomes.
