Dotting the "I" in EHDI

In Utah, Part C early intervention (EI) services are provided by 16 different local agencies across the state who are contracted to perform these services by the state Baby Watch Early Intervention Program (BWEIP) at the Utah Department of Health. The Utah Schools for the Deaf and Blind (USDB) Parent-Infant Program (PIP) is the lead Part C agency for specialized early intervention (EI) services for the DHH. This session will detail the extensive collaboration among BWEIP, PIP, and EHDI that has exponentially increased over the past three years. Utah EHDI has tried hard to improve 6-month EHDI milestone attainment. Increasing partnership with key EI agencies has been the largest strategy in recent years. The directors of all three programs, along with key team members, began meeting monthly in 2019. From sharing data, surveying stakeholders and strategizing to actively creating awareness of each other’s programs, this collaboration has become a true partnership. Come learn more about our partnership and discover ways in which we have collaborated that you can implement in your own state or territory.

Stephanie Browning McVicar (Virtual), Utah Department of Health and Human Services, smcvicar@utah.gov;
Dr. Stephanie Browning McVicar is the Director of the Early Hearing Detection and Intervention Program, the Children’s Hearing Aid Program, and the Cytomegalovirus (CMV) Public Health Initiative in Utah. She works for the Utah Department of Health and Human Services' Children with Special Health Care Needs Office in Salt Lake City. Dr. McVicar is a pediatric audiologist, an advocate for CMV testing in newborns, and passionate about the prevention of congenital CMV infection. She is originally from Western New York and has extensive experience and knowledge in Audiology and the management of health care programs in both the public and private sectors.

Stephanie Morgan (InPerson), Utah Schools for the Deaf and Blind, stephaniem@usdb.org;
Stephanie Morgan was identified with a high frequency progressive hearing level in early elementary school. Her family took advantage of the few sign language resources that were available at that time and also learned of distant family members that were also deaf or hard of hearing. Stephanie used hearing aids until she received cochlear implants in her 30's. Stephanie received her bachelors in Special Education with an Endorsement in Deaf Education and her masters in Educational Leadership and Policy. Stephanie has worked in the Deaf Education field as an outreach teacher, self-contained classroom teacher, and early intervention specialist for more than 15 years. She is currently the Director of the Parent Infant Program under Utah Schools for the Deaf and Blind.
