Research from Scratch – A Recipe to Develop the Framework for Problem-Based Research for Novices
A well-articulated, research-worthy problem statement or question is the main ingredient for any viable research. This presentation will help novice researchers develop a recipe to answer their supposition by using a statement or query as the starting point to develop a research project. We will discuss the fundamental ingredients in a research plan: identifying the different types of research data, designing a problem statement or question, choosing appropriate methodology and methods, collecting and analyzing data, and summarizing conclusions.
The theoretical foundation will be placed into practice by examining the structure of a current research project being implemented in the state of Washington tracking children between ages 3 and 5 who are not participating in specialized educational programs to determine if they are experiencing regression in communication development. We will complete the presentation by proposing a template for crafting an effective research project proposal.
- Describe the different types of research data (achievement, demographic, perception and process)
- Formulate a research question or testable hypothesis
- Develop a plan for data collection and analysis
