Deaf and Hard of Hearing Guides on the Family Journey
Today's early intervention programs have a strong focus on services from professionals and parents for families with newly-identified deaf and hard of hearing babies. Families often have limited opportunities to meet deaf and hard of hearing adults at the beginning of the journey. Deaf and hard of hearing guides in the early intervention system provide families with the opportunity to ask questions and gain insight about the deaf and hard of hearing experience.
The purpose of this presentation is two-fold; to introduce deaf and hard of hearing adults who are leading extraordinary lives in everyday professions and to introduce a new pilot program with deaf and hard of hearing guides in early intervention.
- Recognize the impact of deaf and hard of hearing guides on the family journey.
- Celebrate the potential in every deaf and hard of hearing child rather than looking at limitations.
- Learn about an innovative pilot program of Hands & Voices to introduce deaf and hard of hearing guides to families with newly-identified deaf and hard of hearing babies.
