Evidence-based Practices in Mathematics: Rethinking "I Do, We Do, You Do"
Presenters will merge the UMTSS Framework for Mathematics with research from the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics. The focus of High-quality instruction will emphasize student thinking, students having multiple opportunities to work with content, and establishing a student-centered mathematics class. Participants will engage in a task and analyze how the framework for implementing tasks differs from the "I Do, We Do, You Do" instructional model.
- Participants will identify Effective Teaching Practices in Mathematics
- Participants will understand the research-based practices in High-quality Instruction in Mathematics
- Participants will deepen their understanding and gain strategies to increase effective instruction mathematics

Shannon Ference is the Elementary Mathematics Specialist at USBE. She has previously served as an elementary teacher and elementary mathematics coach. She has an extensive background in elementary mathematics instruction and assessment, mathematics coaching, and in the development and facilitation of professional development.
