From Research Subjects to Research Partners: Shifting the CMV Research and Advocacy Paradigm
Patient-Oriented Research (POR) involves patients and caregivers participating as partners throughout the research process. Traditionally patients are research subjects or advocates for change. POR actively and purposely involves patients in all stages of research, aligning research portfolios with patient priorities to enhance recruitment, data collection, analyses and dissemination. Patients bring unique perspectives and capabilities to research with their lived-experiences and connections to other patients. Our collective lived-experience throughout the global COVID-19 pandemic, and the risks that infectious agents can pose to pregnancy provide an opportunity to better engage patients in CMV research at this time. This session invites attendees to reflect on CMV patient engagement strategies through the lens of POR.
