Auditory and balance risk profile of Puerto Rican diabetics
Previous research revealed that Diabetes mellitus is prevalent among Hispanics. This condition can cause pathological changes that can alter physiological mechanisms, human omeostasis as well as circulation. The cochlear and the vestibular system are greatly dependent on ionic exchange to mantain it's function and omeostatic equilibrlium. This equilibrium is theorized to be alter in diabetics. The objective of the present study is to develop an audiological profile of Puerto Rican adult Diabetics in order to study the possible effects of the condition on both the auditory and the balance system.
- Gain knowledge regarding the prevalence of Diabetis Mellitus among the hispanic population
- Analyze the possible association between Diabetis Mellitus and Hearing Loss.
- Discuss a feasible protocol to determine risk of balance disorders for Diabetic patients
