Reliability of Bone Conduction Thresholds Using the KuduWave Pro Automated Audiometer

Given the growing need for reaching the growing numbers of individuals in low-resourced regions through telehealth audiology, the purpose of this study is to compare pure-tone air and forehead placement bone conduction thresholds of adults while using the manual Hughson-Westlake procedure on the GSI 61 with those obtained by the automated portable telehealth enabled KuduwaveTM Pro.. The thresholds obtained using both instruments will be compared to determine if the average differences are within test-retest reliability, +/- 5 dB.

  • Upon completion of this session, participants will have a better understanding of the capacities of one potential tool
  • Learners will be able to list some of the challenges encountered in community based audiology.
  • Learner will have a better understanding about the strengths and challenges of automated audiometry.

Dr. Kaitlin Palmer is a recent graduate of UT Dallas, and currently provides clinical audiology services for the VA Dallas.

Professor Jackie Clark is currently a Clinical Associate Professor UT Dallas’ School of Brain & Behavior Sciences – AuD Program, and has been appointed as a Research Scholar at the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa. She was the recipient of the American Academy of Audiology Humanitarian Award in 2005. When in Texas, she carries an active clinical caseload with clinical duties involving adult and pediatric diagnosis, hearing aid dispensing, and electrophysiological assessments. She has been actively engaged in a personal annual philanthropic program throughout Sub-Saharan Africa which she began in 1998.
