School Garden Grows Academic Growth
The McKinley Agriculture Academy runs a complete Farm to Table program. Our school garden is used for STEM education, nutrition, food production, and social connections. Our kitchen classroom lets students take pleasure in the processes of cooking, eating, and sharing meals. By engaging learners on experiential and emotional levels, our Farm to Table program provides a meaningful context for multidisciplinary education. After one year of implementation state testing data showed McKinley had the highest growth in ELA across our entire district! We will provide the structures in which our program functions, a garden expectations lesson, and will demonstrate a kitchen vinaigrette lesson kids love!
