Tech Supporting Tech: Assisting Families to Troubleshoot Hearing Technology Through Telepractice

Providing early-intervention services through remote technology (telepractice) promotes the opportunity for families to take the lead in their natural environment including checking and troubleshooting technology. Join us, as we discuss and demonstrate strategies to assist caregivers with troubleshooting their child’s hearing technology remotely, encouraging them to take a hands on approach and ultimately becoming more confident and comfortable with their child’s hearing technology.

  • 1. Identify 3 challenges for troubleshooting technology through telepractice.
  • 2. Describe 3 troubleshooting strategies they will implement during future telepractice sessions.
  • 3. Plan for ways to engage caregivers in troubleshooting technology through telepractice.

Kimberly Hamren, M.Ed, CED, LSLS Cert. AVT, is a Teacher of the Deaf and Birth to Three Specialist at Listen and Talk. She has over 35 years of teaching experience and has worked at Listen and Talk since 1997 in a variety of positions including, preschool teacher, Listening and Spoken Language Auditory-Verbal Therapist, and Birth to Three Coordinator. Kim received her Teacher of the Deaf certification and her B.S. in Education from the University of Nebraska-Omaha and her M.Ed in Early Childhood Special Education from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Kim has been a LSLS Cert. AVT since 2003. She is grateful for the opportunity to participate in the journey with families as they support the listening and spoken language development of young children with various hearing levels.

Cole Bosas (), Fontbonne , nicholeb@listentalk.org;
Cole Bosas holds her BA in Deaf Education from Illinois State University and her MA in Early Intervention in Deaf Education from Fontbonne University. Cole has most recently worked as a Birth-to-Three Specialist at Listen and Talk, where she continues to provide services remotely. She is currently pursuing her Educational Doctorate degree at Fontbonne University in St. Louis, MO.
