The Care Project Family Retreat National Initiative

The CARE Project has received grant funding to plan and host a family retreat experience in 10 states in the U.S. based on the model developed/implemented by Dr. Johnnie Sexton, Au.D. over the past 7 years. Host states will be offered financial assistance for a family retreat in exchange for resource commitments. In addition, non-host states will be invited to send EHDI staff to the event in their MCH region to participate both as volunteers and to be trained to plan/implement family retreats in their respective states. In addition to the in-person experience for families in attending a retreat experience, a virtual platform will be developed simultaneously to offer the retreat experience to families regardless of geographic location and in-person attendance. The virtual component will also allow the development of an ongoing community through which families will be able to stay connected for support and resources.

  • Understand key components of The CARE Project Family National Initiative
  • Identify responsibilities of host states for family retreats
  • Identify responsibilities/roles of non-host states for family retreats
