Genetic Engineering

How can scientists move or “edit” DNA to select for desired traits in agriculture? Learn how to teach basic genetic engineering and genome editing concepts from FDA’s new Food Agriculture and Biotechnology supplementary curriculum, which is the latest addition to FDA’s Science and Our Food Supply series for middle and high school. Presenters will introduce high school-level genetic engineering and genome editing concepts, conduct hands-on activities on plasmid development and CRISPR-Cas genome editing systems, discuss applications of these methods in food agriculture, and distribute free lesson plans and materials.
