Helping to Support Parents of Deaf Babies

Hearing loss is one of the most common birth defects identified in the newborn population. In order to help ensure parents of infants with hearing loss are being fully informed, they need professional people who are deaf within or collaborating with EHDI. Inconsistent information about language and communication modalities, different ideologies from a variety of professionals, and lack of outcome driven data can easily frustrate and confuse new parents of children with hearing loss. Mr. Egbert will discuss how language can be fostered among deaf children and how EHDI could expand programs to help parents by including deaf individuals as services providers, as well as on the administrative level of EHDI.

  • Parents can be better informed to make decision for their deaf babies at start.
