Dimensions of Safety Planning in the Parent-Child Relationship

Safety planning with children and caregivers often requires service providers to be very flexible and creative. This session will provide an overview of the various aspects to safety planning when working with children and caregivers. Strategies on how to introduce the concept of safety planning to children and caregivers will be provided. Additionally, how to establish/re-establish emotional safety within the parent-child relationship will be explored. Examples of individualized safety plans will also be reviewed.

  • Recognize the challenges associated with empowering caregivers to be a resource for safety for their children.
  • Explore ways to engage caregivers and children in creating safety plans.
  • Understand the multiple layers to safety and how to promote emotional safety.

Devon serves as Chief Domestic Violence Services Officer at YWCA Utah. Devon brings with her a foundation of knowledge and skills from her previous positions as Clinical and Trauma Program Directors at The Children's Center. Devon has experience providing administrative guidance and advocacy in support of the YWCA's efforts to provide trauma-informed and empowering domestic violence services.
