Managing Opioids and Chronic Non-Cancer Pain Primary Care Clinics

I will provide a brief overview of the current opioid crisis, data specific to Utah, barriers to providing care when prescribing opioids for chronic non-cancer pain, the importance of prevention, and the Primary Care Pain Education and Opioid Monitoring Program at the VA in Salt Lake City. In closing those gaps, I will discuss my Program which is a streamlined approach to managing opioids and chronic non-cancer pain in primary care settings and has application for all communities whether urban or rural.
