Steve Voelker received his PhD in the Forest Science/Wood Science at Oregon State University. My dissertation focused on the physiology of genetically modified poplar trees. Since Aug 2016 he has been an Assistant. Professor of Dendroclimatology at Utah State University; From 2009-2016 was a post-doctoral researcher at Oregon State University, Southern Oregon University and UC-Berkeley. I developed dendrochronology, wood anatomy and tree-ring isotope techniques to understand tree responses to their environment across temporal scales from thousands of years to seasonal dynamics. Primary research questions his work has addressed include: 1) How did rapid climate change during the last deglacial period affected tree growth and leaf gas-exchange? 2) Has recent California Coastal climate variability is comparable or differs compared to that during the Medieval Warm Period and the Little Ice Age? 3) Have increasing forest densities following fire exclusion impacted the drought-sensitivity of western U.S conifer forests across the last 200 years?
