The Role of the Utah EHDI Parent Consultant(s): A Day in the Life
One of the purposes of HRSA-17-059 “Universal Newborn Hearing Screening and Intervention Program” funding was to address the importance of families within the EHDI system by incorporating family members into our learning communities, facilitating partnerships between families and various professionals and programs within the EHDI system, and developing formal partnerships with statewide, family-based organizations to provide family support to families/parents/caregivers of infants who are deaf/hard-of-hearing.
Although Utah EHDI has partnered with Utah’s federal Family to Family Health Information Center for years, this session will describe the new formal partnership created as a result of HRSA-17-059. We will detail what this partnership looks like, from how the new EHDI parent consultants were hired and trained to where they reside. We will explain how the Utah EHDI program is using these new consultants in affecting change within our system statewide. You will also hear directly from our new EHDI parent consultant(s) defining what their daily work entails and projects in which they are involved. Sharing of ideas amongst audience members will be welcomed.
- Describe ways in which Utah EHDI is utilizing their parent consultant(s)
- Identify new ideas that could be used with their own state's parent consultant(s)
- Compare Utah EHDI's parent consultant(s) roles with that of their own state and share ideas amongst each other
