Business models for ERS
Abstract: Socio-economic analyses have shown great potential with the ERS-technology. However, since the technology needs huge capital investments, financing is a major barrier for break through on large scale. There is a strong request for business models enabling this transistion. How an ERS deployment would affect incumbent actors in road transportation is, however, ambigious. The field suffers from a lack of conceptual framework to perform such analyses.
The presentation proposes a taxonomi for analysis of ERS-projects from a business perspective. It shows how the potential business models for ERS are closely coupled to the perspective of each specific actor.
Four business model set-ups are outlined: 1) ERS as an integrated system, 2) ERS as a traditional public highway, 3) ERS as energy business, 4) ERS as transporation business. The business implications of each of these set ups are discussed in debth.
- Suggesting a conceptual framework for analyses of financial and business aspects of ERS
- Providing an understanding that a business model perspective on ERS depends on the actor perspective taken.
- In depth analysis of four business model set-ups and their implications.
