Thermal Conductivity of Plasma-Sprayed Yttria-Stabilized Zirconia Coatings with Different Microstructure: Application of Different Models
Thin yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) coatings were deposited on stainless steel substrates from liquid feedstocks by hybrid water-stabilized plasma technology. The porosity of the coating has an effect on thermal properties depending on the morphology and the orientation of the pores. Properties of YSZ layers with three different microstructures (“cauliflower-like”, dense and mixed) were measured by the laser flash diffusivity method from RT to 800 ºC. Additionally, the thermal properties of a substrate were carefully investigated and, afterwards, different models of thermal conductivity calculations were applied to these two-layer samples.
The present research study the influence of different microstructure of YSZ layers, substrate thicknesses and heat treatment on thermal conductivity values.
