Increasing the Skill Set of EI Professionals Through Collaborative Monthly Workshops
Listen, Learn and Chat is a collaborative form of professional development being used in Colorado to increase the skill set of professionals working with children who have hearing loss and their families who are using listening and spoken language.
It is funded by The Listen Foundation and supported by the Colorado Chapter of AGBell and geared toward teaming and collaboration with our state EI Program and Colorado Department of Education.
It brings LSLS, audiologists, deaf educators, and speech pathologists from around the state together one night a month to learn together and from each other. People are encouraged to connect in person or over the internet using teleconferencing.
We have a variety of presenters and use videos, live demonstrations, case histories, new publications, and listening and spoken language resources in a collaborative environment.
Participants set monthly goals and form subgroups to dive deeper into areas of need or interest and present back to the group.
This form of a professional learning community has been effective in increasing change in the practice of early intervention providers in the group.
We will share our accomplishments and our challenges as well tools we have found to be useful to make Listen and Chat a success.
- Identify several strategies to create change in EI practice through professional development activities?
- Explore the use of tele-intervention to increase net-working, mentoring, and professional development.
- Identify tools to support a monthly workshop learning environment.
