Innovative Delivery Models of DHH Adult-to-Parent Support
Deaf Mentors, DHH Guides, and DHH Role Models—what is the difference? Do we talk about this at every conference? YES! Let's learn and share how state systems implement different programs serving families and how programs can co-exist together. What are some of the challenges that states face when creating or sustaining DHH Adult-to-Parent Support Systems? What are the guidelines to consider when creating new programs? What can programs, systems and families expect from well trained DHH Guides, Mentors and Role Models? These are the most common questions that come up when putting together DHH Adult-to-Parent support services for families with deaf and hard of hearing children.
EHDI programs have a responsibility to increase by ten percent the number of families enrolled in DHH Adult-to Parent Support services by the time a child turns nine months of age. This session will explore some innovative ways that several states are implementing services for families and how each program works together.
- Participants will identify three examples of current practices and services supporting integration of programs with D/HH Guides and Role Models in the EHDI systems.
- Participants will understand the three traits/skills of well trained DHH adults in the EDHI system
- Participants will identify at least three ways that COVID19 2020 increased accessibility, advocacy and connections to DHH Adult to Parent Support programs.

Stephanie Olson currently works as the Co-Director of Deaf and Hard of Hearing Infusion with Hands & Voices Headquarters and is the Family Consultant at Children’s Hospital Colorado. She previously worked for the Colorado Home Intervention Program as a family facilitator. During 2009, she was part of a team from Children’s Hospital Colorado that traveled to London, South Africa, Brazil and New Zealand and presented on best practices in supporting families. Stephanie has presented at the International Family-Centered Early Intervention (FCEI) Austria, in 2012, 2014,2016, and 2018. She participated in the U.S. and Russian cultural exchange in 2015 and 2016 with Hands & Voices to increase the understanding and impact of Deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals in the parenting journey and professionals who work with those families.
