Sink or Swim? Supporting ALL students in the Pool of Learning.
The old adage, “Throw me in the deep end, and I’ll learning to swim,” (lau) holds true for everyone who has lived to tell about it. Unfortunately, those who fail aren’t around to challenge the idea! As teachers it is our responsibility to ensure ALL students have the skills and support necessary to swim in the deep end (or engage in Tier 1 instruction).
Come and explore evidence-based descriptors that help clearly define each MTSS tier for teachers and leaders, learn what resources and supports can be added or re-purposed in your school to make sure that all students are swimming (or learning) confidently, and get checklists to guide your next step in truly implementing MTSS supports for ALL learners.
- Participants will understand that the differences in MTSS tiers are the skills being addressed and the focus of the support, not the person providing the support or the location of the support.
- Participants will have a plan, based on provided resources, for implementing an evidence-based "next-step" for their school and be familiar with an analog that is useful for explaining MTSS supports to educators and other stakeholders.
- Participants will understand the importance of intended learning outcomes as a key to high student achievement.
