Implementing Systemic Quality Improvement and Program Evaluation Measures

Ensuring the efficacy of program is essential to all entities serving the birth to 3 years age. It is crucial that parents, state Early Intervention agencies, referral sources, funders, school districts and other stakeholders are ensured that the stated mission and vision of a program is substantiated in the measurable positive outcomes for the children and the family. By implementing the use of systemic quality improvement assessments to evaluate their programs, Child’s Voice was able to demonstrate efficacy. We began implementing tracking of various components one department at a time starting with our Early Intervention department, moving to the Audiology and School program. Careful examination and planning directed the selection of cohorts to be tracked in order to best appraise the effectiveness of the programs. The outcomes of implementing systemic quality evaluation are proof of quality of curriculum, have led to changes in programming, generated staff additions, assisted with ease of access to grants/funding dollars, initiated changes in legislation, and increased collaborations with outside networks. The process used from inception to the production of outcomes and statistics will be shared.

Dr. Dawn Violetto is Director of Audiology at Child's Voice, the premier listening and spoken language school in Northern Illinois and has over 27 years of experience in pediatric audiology. At Child's Voice, Dr. Dawn serves the children and families by performing many functions as both an educational and diagnostic audiologist and also serves as a preceptor for doctoral students. Dawn received her B.A. and M.A in Audiology from Northern Illinois University and her Doctorate in Audiology from Arizona school of Health Sciences at A. T. Still University. Dawn has served on the Illinois New Born Hearing Advisory Committee, the Illinois New Born Hearing Collaborative and was involved in introducing the ECHO program in the state. She currently serves on the Illinois JCIH workgroup and the Illinois state SIAC Health Subcommitte Hearing Ad Hoc work group. Dr. Dawn is an adjunct professor at Midwestern and Rush University.

At Child’s Voice since 2010, Kate serves the families and children of Child’s Voice as the Director of Advancement since 2012. In this role, she is responsible for the Advancement Team and the goals of raising funds and increasing outreach and awareness for the magic that happens at Child’s Voice! Kate’s specialties include grant writing, corporate/foundation support, special events, annual appeals for financial support, and presentations about Child’s Voice to civic groups, organizations, and associations. She is a graduate of Purdue University and holds the Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) designation. She has completed the Civic Leadership Academy through Northern Illinois University with special endorsements in both Nonprofits and Community Development. In 2018, Kate was awarded the Under 40 Leadership Award for Nonprofits by the Greater Oak Brook Chamber of Commerce. Kate serves on the Continuous Education as the chair for the Fundamentals of Fundraising course with the Association of Fundraising Professionals Chicago Chapter. She is serving a second term as the President of the West Suburban Philanthropic Network. Kate is a member of the GOBCC Young Business Leaders (co-chair) and Nonprofit Groups and is an active member in the Joan Garry Nonprofit Leadership Lab. Kate volunteers with the DuPage Foundation's Next Generation Initiative Steering Committee and her local elementary school and church.

Michele Wilkins (), Child's Voice School, mwilkins@childsvoice.org;
Michele Wilkins is the Executive Director of Child's Voice School serving the greater Chicago metropolitan area, having held this position for more than 20 years. She has worked in the field of deaf education for her entire career holding positions as classroom teacher, parent-infant specialist,teacher supervisor and college instructor. Dr Wilkins belongs to many professional organizations that support Executive Directors,Special Education, Deaf Education, and Nonprofit Organizations. She is certified as a Listening and Spoken Language Specialist (LSLS Cert.AVEd.).
