Building a Family Support Network
In this presentation, Ohio EHDI, Family Child Learning Center (FCLC), and Ohio Hands & Voices (OHV) will share the results of our collaborative work to support families in Ohio. In 2016 HRSA required state EDHI programs to increase support to families, with 25% of grant funds being used to support a family-based organization.
We will discuss our state systems and inconsistencies in services for families and how we addressed the needs together. We will present our collaborative process and grant requirements and the resulting training for professionals, supports and resources developed for families, and networks that have been created from families. The grant work produced four pieces of training for professionals, each of the pieces of training was designed to share families’ perspectives and experience with targeted professionals. Family resources were also developed, such as an extensive regional resource lists, roadmaps for families to use at one month of age, three months of age, and six months of age.
- Participants will learn how the Ohio EHDI program collaborated with family support organizations to meet HRSA requirements and are working together to develop a stronger family support infrastructure in the state.
- Participants will learn how Ohio EDHI system addressed consistency of services among family support systems after changes in state systems occurred.
- Participants will learn about at least three new family support resources developed through EHDI collaborative activities.
