Christina Cassel
(), Southampton Intermediate School, christina.cassel@icloud.com;
Christina Cassel, a chef, culinary educator, wellness advocate, and a past six time James Beard Foundation Scholarship winner, teaches middle school students in the Southampton Public School District invaluable life skills to assist them in living a healthier life. Southampton, New York, known to many as a summer playground, has many local families that are struggling to make ends meet. The District has a free and reduced lunch rate of 46% with 7% of students living in poverty. The District also serves the community of the Shinnecock Indian Nation, which has been identified as a high needs community due to the percentage of people living in poverty, having less than a high school education, and those who are obese. Outside of the classroom, Christina works with various local farms and community organizations to teach simple techniques for preparing delicious, healthy, affordable meals that are accessible to everyone.
