Thermal Conductivity of Gaseous Methane, Propane and a Binary Mixture of [xCH4 + (1-x)C3H8] with x = 0.95 at T = (253 to 373) K and p up to 14 MPa
The transient hot wire technique is an absolute method for measuring the thermal conductivity of fluids[1]. In this work a transient hot-wire device was used to measure the thermal conductivity of gaseous methane, propane and a mixture xCH4 + (1-x)C3H8, where x ? 0.95. The sensor consists of two 10 ?m-diameter platinum wires with lengths 15 and 4 cm. The wires are placed in series on different branches of a Wheatstone bridge and all the necessary corrections were applied to ideal model for the measurement of the thermal conductivity[2],[3].
The correct operation of the device was confirmed by preliminary measurements of methane, propane and nitrogen at the temperature range (253 to 373) K and pressure range (0.1 – 14) MPa
Our thermal conductivity results were compared with the literature data and the transport property models implemented in NIST REFPROP [4].
