Parents Can Have Both: Keep Jobs and Language Access for Their Deaf Child.
As full time working parents, we will share our journey in different states, Rhode Island and Massachusetts, to ensure that our three deaf sons from the ages of 0-3 had access to their primary language of American Sign Language (ASL) in their natural environment (daycare) that does not normally use the primary language that they use. We are considered pioneers in those states for ensuring that our sons get language facilitating services added to their Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP)s. During our presentation, we will review IDEA Part C and the advocacy that was used to get the services that our sons needed.
- Promote their child's language access while parents are working.
- Justify the language in the Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP) to provide support for family.
- Create a strategic plan for child's language and communication needs.

He is President of the Learning Center for the Deaf Parent Association (TLCPA) and is Executive Director of the RI Commission on the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (RICDHH) and is President of the National Association of State Agencies of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing.
