Integrating the Silos
Are you guilty of teaching independently in your own silo? Learn how to stitch together your curriculum with the teacher down the hall! Participants will recognize how science, math, social studies, communication arts, and agriculture can be interdisciplinary! This workshop will offer engaging examples of real-world phenomena that meet high school academic standards! Attendees will explore lessons from the National Agricultural Literacy Curriculum Matrix and engineer a variable rate irrigation system.

Megan Richner has a passion for integrating agriculture into her science curriculum to make her lessons more relevant, exciting, and hands-on. “Doing to Learn” is her motto! She currently teaches physical science and ecology and coaches the Envirothon team at Stockton High School. Megan has spent the last 11 years in public education. She started her career teaching agriculture but transitioned to science when she had the opportunity to return to her family’s farm and hasn’t looked back. Megan is a graduate of Missouri State University where she received a B.S. in Agricultural Communications and a Masters of Natural and Applied Science in Agricultural Education. She is the vice president of Cedar County Farm Bureau and serves on the Promotion & Education Committee. Megan, along with her husband, and son (5) resides in rural Cedar County where they operate a pasture-based cow-calf operation and sell retail and wholesale beef.
