Class-Wide Function-Related Intervention Teams (CW-FIT): A Classroom Management Intervention that Works!
Student classroom misbehavior is a common concern for teachers. This session will focus on Class-Wide Function-related Intervention Teams (CW-FIT), an evidence-based, multi-tiered behavior management program. Studies of the CW-FIT program have shown increased engagement for classrooms and for individual students, as well as decreased disruptions. Teacher praise rates have also shown improvement. Additionally, teachers and students report liking the CW-FIT program. With CW-FIT, teachers are trained to directly teach social skills, increase praise rates, and hold students accountable for behavior through group contingencies. Self-management and help-card interventions are also implemented for students who need additional support. Participants will learn practical strategies in positively managing classrooms with CW-FIT through direct instruction, visuals, role-plays, video presentations, and discussions regarding Tier I and Tier II.
- Attendees will gain knowledge about an evidence-based classroom management intervention they can implement with fidelity in their classrooms or with classrooms they support.
- Attendees will watch video examples of Class-Wide Function-related Intervention Teams (CW-FIT) implementation in public schools and receive the opportunity to participate in role-plays and discussions about CW-FIT components.
- Attendees will walk away with an understanding of Class-Wide Function-related Intervention Teams (CW-FIT), a multi-tiered classroom management intervention. They will also receive information about whom to contact for further training.

Leslie Williams, Ed.S., is a research assistant at Brigham Young University. She completed her school psychology internship in Clark County School District, Nevada, and is a licensed school psychologist. As a research assistant, Leslie works in collaboration with the University of Kansas to coordinate the dissemination of a classroom management intervention—Class-Wide Function-related Intervention Teams. She also trains teachers on the intervention and consults with schools. Additionally, Leslie assists with a new grant to develop CW-FIT for middle schools.

Darlene Anderson

Darlene Anderson received her Ph.D. in Special Education from Utah State University. She has taught general and special education students in public schools in Utah and West Virginia. She has worked at Brigham Young University in the Counseling Psychology and Special Education Department preparing preservice teachers, advising graduate students, and conducting research to improve academic and behavioral outcomes for at risk students. Darlene is currently employed full-time in the CITES Department as the CW-FIT Grant Coordinator.
