Integrated Delivery Considerations of Electric Roadways: A Southern California Case Study
From a transportation planning perspective, this presentation will outline the key objectives for electrification in the future of cities and the larger transportation network, as well as present some early-stage considerations for how this infrastructure can be evaluated and implemented to ultimately support and drive adoption to electric vehicles. The presentation will also include an overview of some of the key planning and design considerations shaping the a feasibility study of electric roadways focusing on Los Angeles, funded by ARPA-E through the Innovative Development in Energy-Related Applied Science (IDEAS) program, with a discussion on forthcoming considerations to consider for the Southern California region and beyond.

Carley is a Los Angeles-based transportation planning manager with experience in both the public and private sectors. Carley is currently leading regional transportation planning efforts and studies in Southern California, which includes managing the technical transportation plans and stakeholder engagement efforts for Los Angeles 2028 and their preparations for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games. She is also serving as the AECOM Project Manager for the Feasibility Analysis of Electric Roadways, a study funded by ARPA-E’s Innovative Development in Energy-Related Applied Science (IDEAS) program, to evaluate the feasibility of electric roadway implementation in Southern California. Carley’s multi-disciplinary background also includes experience with environmental planning and transit operations while working at LA Metro, where she was involved with the agency’s first electric bus pilot program. Carley received a BA from Dartmouth College and a Master of Planning and Public Administration dual degree from the University of Southern California.
