2. Market Adoption and Environmental Impact Assessment of Electric Roadways in Lower Los Angeles County
Electric roadways offer the key to electrifying light and heavy-duty vehicles, overcoming concerns related to range anxiety. In an attempt to evaluate general population’s perception of electric roadways, a stated preference survey is conducted in the LA metropolitan area. Respondents' attitudes towards electric roadways and other behavioral characteristics that could affect their willingness-to-pay (WTP) and their intention to use the electric roadways are solicited. A second behavioral experiment targeting motor vehicle stakeholders will also take place to determine attributes and factors that may affect technology adoption of electric roadways. Lastly, using local data and California’s EMFAC model, on-road emissions along the target corridors will be estimated. This study is expected to provide data for the incremental rollout of electric roadways in the US and give an insight into important factors, strategies, and business models that may be considered in implementations of similar systems in other geographical areas.

Dr. Konstantina “Nadia” Gkritza is an Associate Professor in the Schools of Civil Engineering and Agricultural and Biological Engineering at Purdue University. Dr. Gkritza has over 10 years of experience in the area of economic analysis of highway investments and modeling, transportation and energy interdependencies, highway safety and sustainability. She has successfully led several federally-, state- or industry- funded projects/programs, more than $6 million in awards. She has documented her research outcomes through several peer-reviewed outlets with 38 published manuscripts, over 100 conference and technical presentations, 18 technical reports, and four book chapters. Dr. Gkritza is the co-Chair of the Transportation Research (TRB) Committee on Transportation and Economic Development; and a member of the TRB Committee on Freight Transportation Economics and Regulation. Dr. Gkritza teaches courses on transportation engineering, economic analysis of transportation investments, and transportation data analysis.
